There is more going on than we think. When it comes to Jesus, there is always more going on than we people think.
There are those who look on from the outside and think that Jesus is just for the weak – someone to be used as a crutch – but there is more going on than they think.
There are ‘religious’ people – those who make it all about regulations and surface level behaviour, and they think they see things clearly – but there is more going on than they think.
There are those who are into social justice; they see God at home with the underprivileged, and, to be sure, He is certainly in that space – but there is more going on than they think.
There are those who try to follow Jesus, albeit imperfectly who often get stuck in the grind, who are at war with themselves more than at peace. Progress is slow, if anything’s progressing at all, but there is more going on than they think.
Then there are those who are in a sweet spot right now; everything is going well, they sense and walk in deep fellowship and intimacy with Jesus, but… even for them, there is more going on than they think.
There is always more going on than what we think, because God is unceasingly active, always at work in the world, and around us. In response to those who thought that it was wrong to heal someone on the Sabbath, Jesus said,
“My Father is working until now, and I am working.” (John 5:17)
God never takes a nap and never needs a day off. He is always on the job. He is the master strategist, planner, campaigner and providential coordinator of all of history. He is always up to something and that something is always ultimately good.
Don’t get caught out thinking that all that is happening is what you can see, or what you can observe – because there is more going on than what you think.
